Chapter Two by Neil Simon (March 2009) Review

Chapter Two by Neil Simon.

2 Men and 2 Women.

Author of: Come Blow Your Horn; Little Me; Barefoot in the Park; The Odd Couple; Sweet Charity; The Star-Spangled Girl; Plaza Suite; Promises, Promises; The Last of the Red Hot Lovers; The Gingerbread Lady; The Prisoner of Second Avenue; The Sunshine Boys; The Good Doctor; God's Favorite; California Suite; Chapter Two; They're Playing Our Song; I Ought to Be in Pictures; Fools; Brighton Beach Memoirs; Biloxi Blues; The Odd Couple (Female version); Broadway Bound; Rumors; Lost in Yonkers; Jake's Women; The Goodbye Girl; Laughter on the 23rd Floor; London Suite; Proposals; The Dinner Party; 45 Seconds from Broadway; Rose's Dilemma.

George has lost his wife to cancer. Jennie has at last sadly divorced her loser husband. Leo and Faye each push them into getting back on the horse, to date other people. Neither of them are anxious to attempt to integrate their lives with another person just yet. Until by accident they are thrust together and find themselves enchanted. But there is more to the story, because there is more to each of these people than simply a desire to pair-bond. Relationships are tough and a relationship to yourself can be almost the toughest of all. Especially as we get older and begin to understand just how strange we really are deep down.

"Admittedly a self-portrait, 'Chapter Two' was the most painful play to write because it dealt with the most painful part of my life."
--Neil Simon
