Cosi by Louis Nowra (August 2002) Review

Cosi by Louis Nowra

7 men, 4 women

Author of: Capricornia,Cyrano De Bergerac,The Golden Age,Inside The Island,Kiss The One-Eyed Priest,Language of the Gods,Summer Of The Aliens,Miss Bosnia,Watchtower.

Lewis is a university student, who takes the position of director in an asylum with patients who are interested in the dramatic arts. He thinks his work will involve staging 'The Exception and the Rule' by Bertolt Brecht, until long-term patient, Roy, insists that the production be nothing less than the grand-staging of Mozart's 'Cosi Fan Tutte.' It's an ambitious thought to say the least. After all, none of the patients can speak Italian nor sing.

Lewis faces many problems the least of which concern the mental state of the patients. Funny, warm and wonderfully mad, Cosi is one production that definitely has it all there... even if the characters haven't!

Cosi (screenplay by Louis Nowra) is an award winning Australian film which starred Ben Mendelsohn, Jackie Weaver, Rachel Griffiths and Pamela Rabe.
